Located in the middle of the Thimphu-Punakha Highway, Dochula Pass is a beautiful place that attracts tourists with its peaceful environment, high-altitude passes and breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Placed at an altitude of 3,100 m above sea level, the place is popular among visitors to Bhutan.

The Pass is located at a distance of 21 km from the capital city of Thimphu which can be travelled with various modes of transportation. The 108 stupas are the main highlight of this region built in the name of all the Bhutanese soldiers who lost their lives during the war. These chortens are made in three different sizes that resemble the rank of the soldiers. The top of the pass offers stunning Himalayan views along with snowcapped mountains of the northern Himalayas that offer an unforgettable experience.

Dochula Pass being located at an elevation of 3,100 m offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan range as well as glimpses of the nearby valleys which on a clear day offer perfect views for nature and wildlife photography.

Festivals

Druk Wangyal Lhakhang Festival is the major festival of Bhutan that is celebrated annually in Dochula Pass. The festival is celebrated in the memory of the ancestors of Bhutan.

Visit Temple

Dochula Pass is also home to the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang temple located on top of the hills built in the name of the fourth Druk Gyalpo of Bhutan. The temple houses intricate designs and structures that reflect the perfect blend of the rich history and culture of Bhutan.
